this collection is made with an off-white leather we developed specially for this new collection "Eco White", that is Alum Tanned.
Like other traditional tanning methods, tawing is an elaborate process: a method of tanning with aluminium salts (alum). It is a naturally-occurring double salt, but which is also artificially produced.
We choose Tawing because the whole process increases the softness, stretchability, and quality of the leather and because it's an eco friendly process; Tanning chemicals can be slightly caustic but they are not toxic contrary to the Chrome tanned leather.
Alum tawing is defined as a “semi-tannage” as the leather is water-sensitive unlike other forms of “true” tanned leather. To improve water resistance, tawed leather is treated with fats and waxes.
