Sustainable production · Responsible shopping The Sustainable Project

A purchase today is so much more than just shopping for a product. It involves taking a stance on company values and supporting a specific way of doing business. Here’s your behind-the-scenes peek at what sustainability means at UNMARKED and how our brand helps build a movement towards more responsible consumption.

Responsible shopping - Second life

At UNMARKED, we’re doing a lot more than making shoes; we’re trying to disrupt consumption as we know it and change the way people shop for fashion. To that end, we offer a resoling service to give a second life to shoes you already own. No matter the brand. And of course, because we use Goodyear welt construction, all our shoes, boots, and sneakers enable resoling and extend the life of your Unmarked.

All our goodyearwelted boots and shoes can be resoled making them useful for at least 20 years.

On-demand production

Overproduction in fashion is one of the world’s biggest environmental threats. We refuse to make that problem worse. Our on-demand production and pre-order system allow us to accurately anticipate demand levels before production, so we only produce the number of shoes we’re going to sell. For you, this means waiting a little longer for your precious shoes, but knowing that you are contributing to a better world. And also getting to order next season’s must-haves early on and at a discount while participating in the movement towards more sustainable fashion. In terms of pricing, on-demand reverts the sales cycle and waves goodbye to the traditional fashion calendar.

Vegetable tanned leather

Vegetable-tanned leather refers to the tannage or method of tanning the cowhide into the leather. It’s called “vegetable” because of the natural materials used in the tanning process, like tree bark. Vegetable tanning, or veg tan as it’s sometimes called, is one of the oldest methods of tanning known to man. It has been around for centuries.

What makes vegetable tanning so unique is it allows us to use thicker leather and results in more body and character. Vegetable-tanned leather also tends to age better and develops a rich patina over time. And it has that great classic leather smell.

Recycled materials

In that unprecedented global context, where more people and goods moved around the world than ever before, we’re conscious that we have to contribute in a way. That ́s why we launched a new product line “UNMARKED SUSTAINABLE”, a responsible, integrated line, generating a positive impact on society. All our products from this line are made with 100% recycled materials like new and recycled rubber soles, shoelaces from recycled polyester for plastic bottles, recycled leather insole, etc.
